Applicability of Coimmobilized Cellulase and Xylanase to Lignocellulose Hydrolysis

Immobilization is a technology for increasing the stability and realizing the reuse of enzymes. In order to clarify the applicability of cellulase and xylanase immobilized simultaneously on the reversibly soluble polymer Eudragit L-100 to lignocellulose hydrolysis, the hydrolysis of pretreated rice straw with the coimmobilized enzymes was analyzed kinetically, and the reusability of the coimmobilized enzymes was investigated. The coimmobilized enzymes were more stable against the changes in pH and temperature than the free enzymes. A holocellulose conversion rate of 61.4 % was obtained in the hydrolysis of pretreated rice straw with both the coimmobilized enzymes and the free enzymes.
Role of Thymidine Phosphorylase/Platelet-Derived Endothelial Cell Growth Factor in Health and Cancer Growth

The intensity of cellular DNA synthesis and, thus, cell division, depends on the level of deoxythymidine triphosphate (dTTP, the key precursor for DNA synthesis). Thymidine phosphorylase – the enzyme of the «salvage pathway» of thymidilate synthesis. It is similar to the platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF) and hence plays dual role in cell biology. On the one side, TP plays a key role in maintaining the balance of the nucleoside pool and controlling nucleic acid homeostasis, by ensuring the correct supply of deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs) for DNA replication and repair.
Innovative Hypothesis on the Role of Hexose 6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (H6PD) in the Catabolism of Galactose

The present mini-review investigates a new metabolic role for a microsomal membrane bound enzyme, hexose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase (H6PD), which may be involved in chemical energy production, particularly in the nervous system. H6PD represents the counterpart of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), leading to an endoluminal pentose phosphate pathway. Currently, H6PD is considered a producer of reduced equivalents, activating the metabolism and the autocrine/ paracrine effects of glucocorticoid hormones.
Production and Characterization of Naringinase from New Fungal Isolate of Lasiodiplodia theobromae

Lasiodiplodia theobromae was selected from ten isolates of fungi for the production and characterization of naringinase enzyme for the first time. Naringinase is essential for bitterness removal of citrus fruit juices. Optimum temperature and pH for the enzyme activity was found to be 50oC and 4 respectively. The kinetic parameters were found to be km 2.5 mM and Vmax 47.2 Umin-1. Molecular characterization of the purified naringinase revealed that it is a single enzyme showing one subunit on the SDS-PAGE with a molecular weight at 67 KDa.
